LOVE MODE | ANIMATION STYLE | SOUNDTRACK | INSPO TAG
“you keep chasing me, dearest, and it’s making me quite sad having to run. such a pretty girl; such a pretty bride. yet, you choose to make things so difficult on us both. why?”
he is on another platform and she has stopped to take some shallow, gulping gasps for air.
in-between the heavy breathing and the burn in her throat, she manages a sort-of and maybe half-answer. “i can’t accept this world.” and she presses the unyielding words against her chest— almost willing it through her ribs.

QUICK POINTS:
- DECONSTRUCTION OF SHOUJO MANGA. AND CONCEPTS OF INDIVIDUALITY VS. COMMUNITY; LOVE VS. FATE.
- STARTS OUT ADORABLE, WITH VERY TRADITIONAL PANELING.
- AND THEN SUDDENLY DIMENSION HOPPING AND PANELING BECOMES PART OF STORY.
- VISIBLE AND TANGIBLE SHOUJO NOVELTIES SUCH AS SPEECH BUBBLES/CRAZY PANELING/RED STRINGS OF FATE.
- ALSO TERROR so much terror and paradise lost references.
- and religious inferences/theory on my part HA HA.
DETAILS:
- LOVE MODE, in reference to the capriciousness of romantic feelings! You swing in and out of the <MODE> in the context of this universe.
- The protagonist (Chidori Aika) is a reclusive, socially awkward girl who has the ability to see (but not touch) the red strings of fate that invariably bind soulmates together. The power of the red strings of fate include, but are not limited to the following
1. a limitless, allpowerful and uncompromising attachment to your loved one.
2. the ability to communicate messages back and forth between yourself and your lover-- this is done by whispering into your own hand. Messages can be forced into your fated one's head. Vice-versa, you can force messages into your lover's head. It works better the closer you are to your fated one.
3. an adverse, "love-sickness" the longer you forgo your fated one! - Her string is attached to the prince of her school. He hadn’t noticed her before, but as the string that connects them gradually shortens, he becomes more interested.
- She wants to cut their string!
- Sometime during the year, a transfer student named Kitakami comes in! He is very hot! Very ridiculously bishonen hot??!?!?? LIKE YUU WATASE “BABBY”… TERRIBLE…. HOT…..
- Except, he’s basically GOD/A METAPHYSICAL BEING. WITH THE ABILITY TO TRANSFORM INTO ANYONE’S HEART’S DESIRE. his default is japanese school boy BECAUSE I SAID SO. He appears here and there, but he likes schools the best because young girls (and boys) are foolish and vulnerable creatures (AHAHAHHAHA…)
- He too can see strings! And touch them…?!?!? Should he pull one three times (“I” “LOVE” “YOU”/ “DAI” “SU” “KI”), he can make people fall in love with him/pledge themselves to him as the Judeo-Christian god can.
- and he can cut them… HE USES IT TO BE A DICK BAG. AND BY THAT I MEAN he cuts people’s strings, makes one (or both parties) fall for him, then after he’s strung them along DUMPS THEIR SHIT.
- Though she is normally avoids others, Aika is surprised that she is Not Afraid of Kita. She approaches him with ease, and demands he cut her string.
- But he runs!
- So, she chases.
- Then all around them, the universe falls apart.
- So, it’s like in a shojo manga wherein our protagonist chases the bad boy in lieu of her budding romance with the sweet and kindly prince of her school! And along the way, she meets a rival and a childhood friend both of whom complicate things greatly!
- Except NOT....
CHARACTERS!
- Aika Chidori, the shoujo heroine: A lazy, ineffectual girl with no heroic attributes to speak of. A bit of a cry-baby and a gutless coward, Aika finds herself in the rather precarious position of HEADING A NOBLE CAUSE in the name of FREE WILL. She tends to dress fairy kei and really cutely!! PINK FUWA FUWA.
- Kitakami, the romantic bad boy: A stupidly handsome boy with too many powers for his own good. He is, as it is, one of the most simultanously BORED and SELFISH dickbags this side of the universe. He treats reality as his plaything and wanders the planets looking for things to do.
- The Prince, the good, fated one... he sometimes cries without knowing why; though, most days he spends staring contentedly... at who knows what!
- Tadami: An upbeat, intelligent boy who's got something to prove and something to hide!
- Sonako, the rival: Originally created by Kita, Sonako acts first as Aika's rival-- though, after some occurences becomes Aika's greatest ally. Her greatest wish is to claim to her humanity and independence from her Creator.
he smiles and suddenly her thread has wound about his fingers. he yanks hard, as if to spin a child’s top, and before she can even think, she almost drops the things.
“i find selfishness unattractive in a woman, you know.”
she’s shaking. her world has blurred. his hair has fallen over his face and she falters between a sense of wonder—if he had always been so handsome— and something close to a note of helpless disgust.
“chasing, chasing, chasing… my dearest, what if it is all for naught?
then, where would all this selfishness and chasing have lead you?”
she claps. the effect causes a pointed bubble in her hands. “closer to you, i think.”
