im sorry tadami your dad is tired
TADAMI is a genius whizzkid, and attends aika’s school ! his intelligence isolates him within his age group, and he finds that others tend to approach him due to his Massive Brain and his complete willingness to help out (read: pushover)
CURRENTLY, tadami spends much of his volunteer hours with some rich/sons-of-politicians upperclassmen at the local university. the work is mostly secretarial/data-entry-esque, so he finds the lack of dependence a relief the usual. shit hits the fan tho when one of the boys gets egged on by his group of pals to lead tadami on into a Relationship… and tadami agrees in spite his suspicions HA HA HA.
the relationship is incredibly dubious and he senses the facetiousness… however he cannot help but buy into the feigned attention.
sonako and tadami soon drop bits of their back stories to one another in passing conversations… finding that the other remains constant and neither prods nor judges more than needed, there’s solidarity in sounding off.
their stories parallel one another; as sonako deals with kita and leica, (eventually betraying kita and disappearing with aika) tadami beats back his fears, confesses his feelings …and leaves the false relationship with dignity!!!
"i love you; i’ll continue to love you too, and for who knows how long. but, i won’t let myself be destroyed by you. so good bye. i love you, but good bye."
(the dude doesn’t say anything, continuing his idiot behavior for another few months. though he doesn’t care or love tadami in particular, the lingering sense of humanity stays on him and leads him to wonder about the unique circumstances of others until he Stops Being An Asshole. HOHOHO)
ANYWAY.
tadami’s going to tell sonako about what happened but sees that she’s not around anymore. life is strangely mundane and quietly cruel, but he continues forth doing his best with what he’s got.
aika finds tadami by coincidence when sonako KIND OF SORT OF DIES LMAO (spoiler alert: kita unravels sonako’s being before aika’s eyes, leading aika to wonder if sonako’s friendship was really willful or if she was just a tool to make aika Suffer)
they talk, and aika gathers the fact that sonako continues to live on as a real human within the memories of others. she chooses to affirm sonako’s humanity/reality/existence by simply saying she died. tadami is sad and they mourn as strangers connected by a single person.
when they part, tadami gathers the courage to ask aika if they can be friends, surprised at how easily the question bubbles forth. aika pauses, and vaguely tells him that she hopes they can.
